- Wireless Information System for Emergency Responders (WISER) / National Library of Medicine- This system is designed to assist first responders during hazardous material incidents. It provides a wide range of information on hazardous substances, including chemical identification support, physical characteristics, emergency medical treatment, containment and suppression information. It is available for the Palm OS PDAs and Windows Mobile Devices.

Tucows - This company was the first to provide software on a “freeware” or “shareware” basis and now offers 40,000 software titles.
Medical Textbooks:
Instructions on downloading and installing books / NCBI - Some of the books in the NCBI / National Library of Medicine Bookshelf can be downloaded to a handheld device. You will need to download a free version of MobiPocket Reader. The software works on Palm, Pocket PC, Symbian phones and PCs.
Medical / Health Software Download Sources:
ACC / AHA Joint Guidelines-The ACC/AHA Joint Guidelines include topics such as ST-elevation, myocardial infarction, superventricular arrhythmias, and chronic stable angina. It is available for Pocket PC.
ACCP Quick Reference Guide on Antithrombotic Therapy - The ACCP Quick Reference Guide is a summary of the sixth ACCP Consensus Conference on Antithrombotic Therapy and is in Palm OS format.

American Medical News - American Medical News provides the latest content in a format designed to work well on your web-enabled phone or other mobile device.
Archimedes Medical Calculator - Provides a calculator application with 150 medical formulas.
ATP III Cholesterol Management Implementation Tool - This is an interactive guideline tool for the Third Report of the National Cholesterol Education Program Expert Panel on Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Cholesterol in Adults (Adult Treatment Panel III). This is available for the Palm OS.
Bioterrorism / American College of Physicians-This resource aids the clinician in diagnosing smallpox, inhalation anthrax, cutaneous anthrax, and chemical terrorism. It is available for both the Pocket PC and Palm OS.

Clinical Trials / National Library of Medicine- ClinicalTrials.gov provides patients, family members and the general public current information about clinical research studies.
Dynamic IV Drip Calculator - From Epocrates MedTools. Calculates weight-based IV infusion rates. It is available for the Pocket PC or Palm OS.
EBM Calculator / Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine - The EBM Calculator is designed to calculate relevant statistics for Diagnostic Studies, Prospective Studies, Case Control Studies, and Randomized Control Trials (RCT). It is available for the Palm OS.
Epocrates MedTools - MedTools is a series of free applications that includes a temperature conversion calculator, a GFR calculator, and more. It is available for both Pocket PC and Palm OS.
Epocrates Mobile CME - Allows the clinician to earn CME credits on a mobile device. It is available for the Pocket PC or Windows Mobile.
Growth Charts - Contains the June 2000 revision of the CDC Growth Charts. It is available for the Pocket PC or Palm OS.
Hematology Guide 1.0 - This tool from PalmGear is a guide to common lab values in hematology for children and adults. It is available for Pocket PC.

MedMath v1.21 - Offers more than 30 formulas, including a dosing calculator. It is available for the Palm OS.
MemoWare - There are more than 350 medical applications and reference tools in a variety of formats and languages. In addition, it contains thousands of documents (databases, literature, maps, technical references, lists, etc.) specially formatted for PalmOS and Pocket PC. Most documents are free of charge; however, a very few are shareware.
Mobile MerckMedicus - This offers several free resources for downloading including the Merck manual. The site requires registration. It is available for both the Pocket PC and Palm OS.
Mobile Resource Page / University of Virginia Health Sciences Library - This is an excellent site which gathers info on general software, medical software, general portals, medical portals and PDA security. It is available for both the Palm OS and Pocket PC.
National Cancer Institute Tumor Staging Reference / Epocrates - This resource provides access to tumor staging information and can be searched alphabetically or by body system. It is available for both Pocket PC and Palm OS.
NCBI Bookshelf - The full-text of several textbooks are available from the NCBI Bookshelf. It is available for both the Palm OS and Pocket PC; it requires MobiPocket Reader. Full download instructions are included.
OEI Obesity Treatment Guidelines - This resource from the Obesity Education Initiative includes features such as a body mass index calculator, an assessment of cardiovascular risk factors, and individualized weight loss goals. It is available for both Pocket PC and Palm OS.
Pediatrics on Hand / The Complete Guide to the Pediatric Handheld- Pediatrics on Hand maintains the most up-to-date collection of pediatric specific programs and files for the handheld. There may be a charge for some of the titles. It is available for both the Palm OS and Pocket PC.
Peds Omnibus v2.0 - Offers pediatric dosing calculators, pediatric and NICU daily values, patient tracking, developmental milestones, growth charts, and immunization schedules. It is available for the Palm OS.
PocketConsult - This offers several free tools including 20 medical calculators, health care news, and drug updates from MD Consult. it is available for both the Pocket PC and Palm OS.
PubMed for Handhelds - The National Library Medicine offers PubMed Medline (both for searching and reading journal abstracts) and PICO search (Patient, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome).
Puff v2.5 - Offers calculators for predicted values for spirometry, flow-volumes and body plethysmography. It is available for the Palm OS.
Sanford Guide - You can obtain the Sanford Guide to Antimicrobial Therapy and the Sanford Guide to HIV/AIDS Therapy from this site. There is a charge for these titles. It is available for both the Palm OS and Pocket PC.
Skyscape.com- This site allows downloading of time-limited trial versions or purchasing medical resources for the Palm, PocketPC, or Windows CE handhelds.
STAT Cardiac Clearance v1.1 - Guides clinicians through the complex algorithms established by the American College of Cardiology / American Heart Association Task Force on Practice Guidelines and the American College of Physicians for evaluating patients prior to noncardiac surgery. It is available for the Palm OS.
STATCholesterol - This application is from Epocrates MedTools. It guides clinicians through the ATP III Cholesterol Guidelines. Includes calculators. It is available for the Pocket PC and Palm OS.
StatCoder - This offers several free tools such as an ICD-9 Search Tool and the GRACE ACS Risk Assessment. It is available for both the Pocket PC.
Temperature Conversion Calculator- Calculates temperature from Celsius to Fahrenheit and from Fahrenheit to Celsius. It is available for the Pocket PC and Palm OS.
ToxNet / National Library of Medicine - Eight of the National Library of Medicine's databases, including TOXLINE, can be accessed from a web browser on a PDA device with a network connection.
Unbound Medicine - Content is provided from the BMJ Publishing Group, including books and journals. There may be a charge for these titles. It is available for both the Palm OS and Pocket PC.
