DATABASES / MEDICAL:

  • Ovid Online - You will not need a password if you use a Henry Ford computer. The Ovid system gives you access to Medline, PsycInfo and many other medical databases.

  • PubMed - PubMed is a web-based retrieval system developed by the National Library of Medicine providing access to the MEDLINE database. MEDLINE is the premier biomedical database covering the fields of medicine, nursing, allied health, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system and the preclinical sciences. PubMed is a bibliographic database with links to full-text information.

  • MD Consult - A new Sladen resource; please try it out and let us know what you think with a brief survey.   A suite of online resources that includes books, journals, patient education handouts, drug information and the point-of-care resource, FirstConsult.

  • UpToDate - UpToDate is a comprehensive evidence-based clinical information resource and is designed to provide concise, practical answers quickly at the point of care.  Access to UpToDate is only available from Henry Ford facilities.  If you are using Citrix MetaFrame, please start Internet Explorer locally on your PC and go to the UpToDate Access page.  For further details on using UpToDate, click on the UpToDate Information Page.

  • CINAHL via EBSCO - The CINAHL database (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature) is the premier index for the literature of nursing and allied health. CINAHL is primarily a bibliographic database but offers links to full-text information.  For further information, view the Sladen Library Searching CINAHL Information Sheet.

  • CardioSource Plus - CardioSource Plus provides full access to the American College of Cardiology's self-assessment programs, teaching programs, and practice support tools. It also includes access to ACC Meetings on Demand, the JACC, Heart Songs, and ACCIS. This resource requires individual registration in order to access all content.  

  • Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database – A collection of more than 1,000 monographs on herbal and non-herbal natural medicines.  This database provides answers to questions about natural medicines, herbs, dietary supplements, sports supplements, minerals, vitamins, etc. 

  • Cochrane Databases - The Cochrane Library contains high-quality, independent evidence to inform healthcare decision-making, including the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects, Cochrane Methodology Register, Health Technology Assessment Database, and the Economic Evaluations Database.  For further information, view the Sladen Library information sheet  Searching the Cochrane Library.  

  • Ageline Database / AARP Database - Produced by AARP, Ageline searches articles, books, dissertations, government reports, conference proceedings and research reports for literature related specifically to social gerontology, aging, and older adults.

  • ImagesMD - ImagesMD provides access to 50,000 high-quality images spanning all of internal medicine. Each image is accompanied by detailed and informative text written by over 2,000 experts. You have unlimited personal use of the images in this collection.

  • Anatomy.TV - Anatomy.TV, produced by Primal Pictures, is the world's most detailed 3D model of human anatomy online.

  • LactMed / Drugs and Lactation Database - A peer-reviewed and fully referenced database of drugs to which breastfeeding mothers may be exposed. Among the data included are maternal and infant levels of drugs, possible effects on breastfed infants and on lactation, and alternate drugs to consider.

  • SUMSearch  - SUMSearch was developed by the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.  This resource selects the best resources for your EBM question, formats the question for each resource and makes additional searches based on the results.

  • OTSeeker - OTseeker is a database that contains abstracts of systematic reviews and randomised controlled trials relevant to occupational therapy.

  • PEDRO - PEDro is the Physiotherapy Evidence Database. It has been developed to give rapid access to bibliographic details and abstracts of randomised controlled trials, systematic reviews and evidence-based clinical practice guidelines in physiotherapy.

CONSUMER HEALTH INFORMATION:

  • MedlinePlus  - MedlinePlus was created by the National Library of Medicine, and will direct you to information to help answer health questions. MedlinePlus also has extensive information about drugs, an illustrated medical encyclopedia, interactive patient tutorials, and latest health news.

  • InfoTrac – Provides access to carefully compiled and trusted medical reference materials.  Includes nearly 400 health/medical journals, hundreds of pamphlets, over 700 health-related videos from Healthology, Inc., and articles from 2,200 general interest publications in addition to a broad collection of reference books.

  • Krames On Demand
    Krames offers patient education materials tailored specifically for the individual patient.  This resource is for Henry Ford Health System employees only.

  • Genetics Home Reference  - Genetics Home Reference is the National Library of Medicine's web site for consumer information about genetic conditions and the genes or chromosomes related to those conditions.

DATABASES / GENERAL:

  • InfoTrac – Provides access to 18 different databases which index news and periodical articles covering a variety of topics including business, computers, current events, economics, health care, humanities, law, politics, popular culture, science, sports and technology.  Many of the articles are available full-text in HTML or PDF format.

  • FirstSearch – Provides access to 13 databases covering a wide variety of subjects.  Databases include:

    • WorldCat – The world’s largest online card catalog.  Search for books, journals, and audio-visual materials in over 50,000 libraries in 90 countries.
    • WilsonSelectPlus – WilsonSelectPlus provides access to full-text articles in science, humanities, education and business.
    • ArticleFirst – ArticleFirst indexes journal articles on business, the humanities, medicine, pop culture, science, the social sciences, and technology.  The majority of the information in this database is full-text.
  • ERIC - Maintained by the U.S. Department of Education, the Education Resources Information Center (ERIC) database is an international database of journal and non-journal literature on the subject of education.  This database offers some full-text information.

DATABASES / HEALTH CARE MANAGEMENT:

  • Business & Company Resource Center (InfoTrac) - Business and Company ASAP provides full-text information on companies, markets and industries, and current management theory. It includes business and trade journals, newspapers and company directory profiles.

  • Computer Database (InfoTrac) - Computer Database offers information on computer-related product introductions and news and reviews in areas such as hardware, software, electronics, engineering, communications and the application of technology.  The majority of the information in this database is full-text.

  • General Business File ASAP (InfoTrac) - General Business File ASAP provides access to a combination of broker research reports, trade publications, newspapers, journals and company directory listings with full text and images available. Topics covered include company performance and activity, industry events and trends, and the latest in management, economics and politics.

  • Health Care Advisory Board - The Advisory Board provides best practices research and analysis to the health care industry, focusing on business strategy, operations and general management issues.  They publish daily and weekly news services, 50 major studies and 3,000 customized research briefs each year on progressive management and clinical practices in health care. In general, the research focuses on the best (and worst) demonstrated practices, helping member institutions benefit from one another's learning curves.

  • Health Reference Center Academic (InfoTrac) - Health Reference Center Academic is a multi-source database providing access to the full text of nursing and allied health journals, plus the wide variety of personal health information sources.

  • Joint Commission Manual - The full-text of all three Joint Commission Manuals, plus a link to the Joint Commission official web site.

  • LegalTrac (InfoTrac) - Drawing on a wide variety of the most highly regarded legal publications, LegalTrac provides indexing for more than 1,400 titles including major law reviews, legal newspapers, bar association journals and international legal journals. LegalTrac also contains law-related articles from over 1,000 additional business and general interest titles. There is some full-text information available.

  • New York Times (InfoTrac) - Provides full-text access to the complete New York Times starting in 1985.

  • WilsonSelect Plus (FirstSearch) - Full-text articles covering science, humanities, education and business.

DRUG INFORMATION:

  • Micromedex - The MicroMedex Healthcare Series provides quick access to information on diseases, toxicology, and drugs including features to assist with drug comparison, drug identification, therapeutic class searching, and dosing.  Helpful laboratory tools such as measurement and conversion calculators are also available within this resource.  Micromedex Training

  • Clinical Pharmacology  - This resource provides clinically-relevant, in-depth coverage of information pertaining to generic, brand name, nutritional, herbal, and investigational drugs.  Drug monographs provide information on indications and dosage, administration guidelines, mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics, contraindications, interactions, and adverse reactions.  This resource can also be used to compare drugs, identify products, locate patent information, and check IV compatibility.  Printable patient-level drug information handouts are available from this resource.

  • Epocrates Rx Online – Drug monographs in Epocrates Online provide information on adult and pediatric dosing, contraindications, adverse reactions, drug interactions, pill pictures, manufacturer, and cost.  AHFS DI versions of the monographs are also available, as well as printable patient education handouts.  Other noteworthy features of this resource include the Multi Check drug interaction tracker, patient evaluation tables, and a variety of medical calculators including dose converters and clinical criteria trees.  

  • Pharmacy Toolkit – The Sladen Library professionals have gathered all of the drug and pharmaceutical resources together on one web page for your convenience.

  • Provider Page / Careplus – This Sladen web page was developed for Henry Ford clinicians and includes the most relevant Sladen resources for patient care.

  • Sladen Journals  – This is a complete listing of all the Sladen Journals, with links to those that are available full-text. 

  • Sladen Electronic Books  - We have more than 1,300 full-text medical and health science books.

  • StatRef - A comprehensive collection of approximately 60 full-text medical textbooks.

  • Sladen Online Card Catalog – Check here to see if the Sladen Library owns a particular book or audiovisual.

  • '5S' Pyramid of Evidence Resources / Sladen Library –  A complete listing of all Sladen Library evidence-based practice resources.
